STOPKIG - News - 25/05/2007 - Parish Councils

Local parish councils are against the KIG proposal and some, including Downswood and Harrietsham, have invited representatives from STOPKIG.org to speak with them, and asked to kept updated.

Most recently, Bearsted Parish Council had a meeting where several members of the public, including representatives from STOPKIG.org raised the issue of the KIG proposal.

The Parish Council through the Chairman, Richard Ash, stated they are totally opposed to the proposal, and have issued the following statement which has also been released to the Kent Messenger and Downs Mail.

Public Notice

Bearsted Parish Council wish it to be known that they are 100% against the proposal by KIG for a rail freight interchange with associated development on land to the west of Junction 8 of the M20.

The Bearsted Parish Council has declared itself committed to opposing the Kent International Gateway (KIG) proposal as unacceptable on the grounds of inadequate local infrastructure, the environmental impact on the local community and that it is in a totally inappropriate location along the base of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Parish Council is registering its support for the STOPKIG team initiative and looks forward to working with them.
